Shri Balaji Maharaj Temple,

Ghata Mehandipur, Dausa (Rajasthan)

The temple of Shri Balaji Maharaj is situated amidst two picturesque hills of Ghata Mehandipur, Tehsil Sikrai, District Dausa. This location of the temple is an essential part of the part of Mehandipur divided into two districts of Rajasthan (Karoli and Dausa). The childform (baalroop) of Shri Balaji Maharaj has been worshiped at this holy place for thousands of years.

Many years ago, Shri Balaji Maharaj appeared in a dream to Goswami Brahmleen Mahant Shri Rampuri Ji Maharaj — a revered Mahant in the Dashnami Shaiv tradition — and made him realize that he was in Mehandipur. Since then, this tradition continues under the present Mahant, Shri 1008 Dr. Narresh Purri Ji Maharaj. After this, Shri Rampuri Ji Maharaj gathered five Patels from eleven villages and narrated the story of his dream. After that, all the Panch Patels removed the shrubs and grass and stones from the middle of the Aravalli Mountain range.

Mahant Shri Rampuri Ji Maharaj lovingly consecrated the holy idol of Shri Balaji Maharaj’s childform. From that time till the present, this temple has been an important part of devotion and reverence.

Mahant Tradition

Present Mahant 1008 Shri Narresh Purri Ji Maharaj

In ancient times, there used to be a dense forest between the two hills. Balaji Maharaj had made the Goswami Brahmleen Mahant of the first Dashnami Shaiva sect Shri Sri 1008 Ram Puri Ji Maharaj feel that he was at a Ghata through a dream. When Shri Ram Puri Ji Maharaj along with five Patels of 11 villages removed the grass and stones from the forest, the divine form of Shri Balaji Mehandipur appeared. Since then, according to the Mahant tradition, Brahmleen Shri Shri 1008 Ganesh Puri Ji Maharaj delegated the responsibility to Brahmleen Shri Shri 1008 Kishore Puri Ji Maharaj and later passed to the present Mahant Shri Shri 1008 Narresh Purri Ji Maharaj, and he dedicated entire life to the service and worship of Shri Balaji Maharaj.
